National Grilled Cheese Day

Good bread is one of the most versatile things to keep in your kitchen. A Tribeca Oven artisan loaf can take you anywhere from French Toast to dippable crostini to savory bread pudding. And, of course, whenever sandwich cravings strike, it’s best to be prepared with a backup loaf in the cupboard or freezer!

One of our favorite types of sandwiches is grilled cheese. Not only are they so comforting and endlessly customizable these toasty sandwiches really make the most of our carefully crafted breads. The perfect balance of soft and chewy, with enough structure to prop up lots of cheese and toppings, our bread- is the ideal vessel for any kind of grilled cheese you can dream up.

While some traditionalists prefer a straightforward grilled cheese, with cheddar or American cheese melted between thick slices of sourdough, we like to have some fun getting creative. If you also enjoy grilled cheese with unexpected and unique fillings, here are three creations to try, developed for us by Kali Grable, C.H. Guenther & Son Research Scientist and graduate of The Culinary Institute of America:

This surprisingly spicy plant-based grilled cheese is inspired by the classic happy hour snack: jalapeño poppers. This bold sandwich does not skimp on flavor, with a Tribeca Oven Sourdough baguette layered with seasoned vegan cream cheese and vegan cheddar, then stuffed with smoky roasted mushrooms and hot peppers. The result is a decadent umami bomb with a great hit of heat.

Jackfruit comes from the same family of fruits as figs, mulberries and breadfruit that grows well in tropical climates. A staple in many Southern and Southeast Asian cuisines, jackfruit has grown in popularity over the last decade in Western cultures as a plant based meat substitute, often taking the place of pulled pork. Ripe, uncooked jackfruit has a pineapple/banana-esque flavor; most jackfruit used for vegetarian cooking is boiled and shredded with a relatively mild flavor that is highly absorbent of spices and sauces.

Here, we use this unique product in a grilled cheese sandwich that adds mac-and-cheese and collard greens. It’s like a BBQ platter in handheld form! For such an overstuffed sandwich, use Tribeca Oven French Baguette, which is sturdy enough to stand up to these juicy ingredients!

Multigrain Loaf - Chipotle Chicken Grilled Cheese 1 (2)

This grilled cheese reminds us of something on the menu at a bustling lunch cafe or comfy bistro. The chipotle mayo (which you’ll want to put on everything), pepper jack cheese, and red onion lend a sort of Tex-Mex flavor profile, which is nicely complimented by the nutty, robust heartiness and subtle sweetness of Tribeca Oven Multigrain Loaf.

Whether you prefer your grilled cheese plain Jane, or super-gourmet, or over-the-top creative, use Tribeca Oven bread for the best results! To find our products at a retailer near you, use our convenient product locator.
